Answers - guitarquiz 13

Quite diverse answers this time, but at least every song got recognized by at least one contestant - kudos!

The songs were:
  • Song 61: Megadeth - hangar 18. Total classic, and an awesome tune to rip into live. You need someone to channel the vitriolic vocals and 'tude of good ol' Dave, though.
  • Song 62: Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing. I love this DS song, despite it being totally overrated in Anders' estimation. The recorded section is basically the first solo, with a chorus thrown in for good measure. Another kick-ass live tune.
  • Song 63: Bryan Adams - Summer Of 69. Finally a song both Anders and myself can dig. We used to kill with this one live as well - it's got a classic progression you can solo over 'till the cows come home, it's got a sweet hook, and the crowd is sure to know it.
  • Song 64: Europe - Cherokee. A classic, like every single song from "The Final Countdown".
  • Song 65: W.A.S.P. - Wild Child. This also works like a mofo live, and it's got one of the coolest opening lines ever.

So; the Score after round 13 look like this:

  1. Sondre (8/10)
  2. Cathy (6/10)
  3. Anders/Pigeon (tied at 4/10)

And without further ado - the Total Score now looks like this:

  1. Sondre (88 points)
  2. Pigeon (73 points)
  3. Cathy (70 points)
  4. Anders (67 points)
  5. Torbjørn (6 points)

Congrats to Sondre, who continues his reign of terror, and good luck with quiz 14!

Cathy, are you leaving me? I thought we were uniting at the bottom of the list?
;-)

Anyway, here are my scores:

Megadeth - hangar 18
I only know of Megadeth due to W-boi, but couldn't name a single song by them. So, no chance on this one.

Dire Straits - Sultans Of Swing
Of course I had this one. From my favorite DS album (it's just called Dire Straits), but unlike W-meister, my favorite tune from this album is Water of Love. Check it out.

Bryan Adams - Summer Of 69
I know all the song from the Greatest Hits album. Other material from mr. Adams, I'm not that familiar with. Easy one.

Europe - Cherokee
Damn. Should have asked my wife about this one. She's the biggest Europe fan I know of. Thought it sounded familiar...

W.A.S.P. - Wild Child
See Medadeth comment.

So, who did the rest of you people do? Pigeon, your score this round was pathetic.

Hangar 18 has become more accessible to the general public due to the arrival of the Guitar Hero game. So at least two population segments have a shot at recognizing this tune - metal fans and WoW playing nerds.

I sort of expected you to find SOS and SO69, brah..........

Kind of surprised that you didn't ace "Cherokee" though.

Are you saying that I disappoint you? ;-)

Too much of the heavy stuff for me this round. Remember that the heaviest music I listened to in the 80s was Modern Talking.

Wilhelm said...

Modern Talking is about as heavy as you're willing to roll these days as well, no?

There's a small misunderstanding Anders. I don't wanna say goodbye to you. I'm just trying to say hello to Sondre.
Incidentally I know that quizz 14 you got all the answers, so..............

your mom teach you to be nice to the other kids,

Hey, I'm nice. I'm the most PC guy around here. Name one dead person I've given a hard time in here?

But, Cathy, the real problem here is the we are both behind Pigeon. We can't be beaten by a "tiny" french guy, now can we?
;-)

Are you tryin' to crip on my set by all-out PC-thuggin' me, Anders?

Who, me? Can't say that I mentioned your name anywhere in that comment... ;-)

Nope, we're not gonna ;) Wilhelm, could we have more ZZ Top and Whitesnake and less Scorpions in the quiz, please? :D

You know, I have to tell you this: Even though you use an alias here, there's no such thing as total anonymity on the internet. So you have to ask yourself: Is the above statement something you want the general public to know about you? Some things are better left for the privacy of your own home.

:-D

Som serious smackdown there, and more than a veiled threat of unleashing the full potential of your dark-side Google Fu, Anders.

No, no. I'm just saying that if somebody wants to find out who's who on this blog, they have a fair chance of succeeding. And P-Diddy might not want to go public with his weak spot for German Hair Metal and soft power ballads. Much like you don't want to be outed as a Eurovision Song Contest and Gilmore Girls fan. ;-)

Wilhelm said...

Wait; are you saying that I'm not fully anonymous and that people might actually figure out who I am and what I do?

...the humanity.....

..and whaddoyamean I'm a fan of EC music? That's like saying you enjoy watching synchronized swimming just because you watch the Olympics

Anders said...

Did I say music? I never use that word in the same sentence as Eurovision Song Contest. And of course, the examples above were purely hypothetical to better get my point through...
;-)

Anders said...

Wait; are you saying that I'm not fully anonymous and that people might actually figure out who I am and what I do?

No, no. We are still anonymous here, "Wilhelm". Like, in the style of Aylar, I blame these blog postings on my nerdy twin brother. I'm still the cool and famous rock'n'roll drummer...

Not for nothin', but for the most part we're on the same page here. Yet every now and again, you've got artists like Wig Wam and that Icelandic guy whose name escapes me right now....Eirikur Hauksson. Valentine Lost was an exceptional classic rock tune which happened to be released using ESC as a vehicle.

Wilhelm said...

..at least your doppelganger has a larger fanbase and a bigger recognition potential than mine does :-(

Not a diss, just sayin'

How 'bout those ABBA, eh? That's the only artist I can remember that ever has really made it outside the ESC. And not had the "ESC" stamp on them for the rest of their life.

Wilhelm said...

Yeah well.......ABBA made some killer tunes, especially those covered by Yngwie and Avantasia ;-)

Anders said...

And yet, I somehow don’t see Eirikur Hauksson becoming a household name. Even if Yngwie decides to cover some of his tunes...

Can't seem to remember seeing any of those on ESC, though...

(is it just me, or has this post drifted far away from the original topic of answers to guitar quiz 13?)

Wilhelm said...

'cause they passed away while their applications got processed...or Rolling Stones jacked their tunes

Anders said...

Rolling Stones jacked their tunes

LOL!!!

(but I'm a bit disappointed that you let this obvious chance of dissing mr. Clapton get away...)
