For about a week I've been working on a neoclassical riff/melody line I was really happy with. However, I had the nagging suspicion that it sounded familiar. Turns out it's the intro/main lick to "Heaven" by Swedish prog/neoclassical band Treasure Land:
The joke's on them though; I added way more notes to the turnaround of the lick, and I turned the main rhytm into a Dragonforce-like thing.
No; joke's still on me.

Ditch the neoclassic nonsense and pick up slide guitar. Preferable in lapstyle.
...that's your solution to everything
Of course.
It's not like any of the artists on your collection (sans Dire Straits) has done anything on lapstyle, so the chance of you unconsciously would mix something from those artists into the playing is slim to none...
.....I have to admit that your logic is sound here
...so lapstyle it is, then. Can't beat logic. You biggest concern now, is to decide between pedals or no pedals.
Yeah; I'll get right on that
