Answers - guitarquiz 6

Here be the songs:
  • Song 26: Wham! - The Edge Of Heaven. From the final Wham! album aptly named The Final (1986). Awesome tune.
  • Song 27: Steve Miller Band - The Joker. For the record, I've always thought this song sucked.
  • Song 28: Whitesnake - Here I Go Again. Only one of y'all got this. This is for sure one of my favorite Whitesnake songs, and you better believe it raised the roof in various pubs and stuff back in da day.
  • Song 29: Kelis - Trick Me. Aka most annoying song of 2004
  • Song 30: Guns'N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine. Another perennial crowd favorite, and the only one all y'all got. It should be mentioned that the guitar sound has just a little too much distortion in the treble region........the neck p/u on my S270 has got more power than I thought.

The standings for Quiz 6:

  1. Sondre (8/10)
  2. Cathy/Cedric (both tied at 6/10)
  3. .....
  4. Anders (4/10)

Accordingly; the normalized score is:

  1. Sondre (7.7 points /Quiz)
  2. Cedric (6.3 points/Quiz)
  3. Cathy/Torbjørn (tied at 6.0 points/Quiz)
  4. ....
  5. Anders (4.8 points/Quiz)

And finally; the Total Score after Quiz 6:

  1. Sondre (46 points)
  2. Cedric (38 points)
  3. Cathy (36 points)
  4. Anders (29 points)
  5. Torbjørn (6 points)

Congrats to Sondre once again, and good luck with Quiz 7.

The Edge Of Heaven : damn, this song sucks

Congrats again Sondre and also congrats to Cathy for finding White snake
Good one

Wham! - The Edge Of Heaven
Like I ever have heard that one. Yes, I'm sure it was "HOOOGE" in the semi-gay community for about 15 minutes in 1986...

Steve Miller Band - The Joker
A true classic, whether you know it or not. That riff gotta be like the worlds second most known (after Smoke On The Water, of course). And of course I got this one right.

Whitesnake - Here I Go Again
Don't like 80's hair metal, although this one I might at least heard the title of. No Whitesnake song is consider a classic by me, even if it the raised the roof on several barns back in the days...

Kelis - Trick Me
Dang, you keep surprising with your selction of songs, W-meister. I admit it. Have completely forgotten about this one (thanks for reminding me about this annoying song, btw!) Crappy song, though.

Guns'N Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine
Yes! Even though I don't even remotly like any GnR song, I did manage this one. I think I even have a fighting chance on recognizing Nowember Rain...

Well, at least I'm moving further and further away from the last place on the total score chart... ;-)

seriously dude , where were you in the 80's ? Guitmo ???

The 70's ended around 1994 for me. And then everybody else was in the 90's, so I just joined them...

So, P-Diddy, which ones did you miss on this quiz?

Heeeeeyyyy now; don't be beefin' with Wham! up in heah...... You don't want no trouble with the semi-gay community, I tells ya.

And true; congrats to Cathy for finding Whitesnake.

Did ya like the new and improved whammy whistle at the end of the riff?

No of course; unlike "Got A Pebble In My One Good Shoe" and other blues memorables, Here I Go Again doesn't qualify as a classic. That label, I have come to understand, is reserved for songs in which the instruments are out of tune.

Word up, Anders. This song is wall-to-wall annoying and void of any lyrical content.

wham, of course and white snake cause my knowledge on hard rock from the 80's in inversly proportionnal to the length of their hair

Brian May used to have longer hair than Steve Vai. Does that mean you'd recognize David Lee Roth songs before you recognized Queen songs?

Hey, that was cool. I don't think I've heard through the whole think before.

Oh, come on, even you have to admit that "Got A Pebble In My One Good Shoe" is a true classic!
LOL

Yes; and I can actually play this one. Remember what show it was on?

C there, W-meister. It's only in the ruraliest (that's a word!) parts of Norway that Whitesnake are considered to be even close to pen a song which could be considered an aspiring classic.

But for the facts that Pigeon a) is french and b) that he didn't recognize Smoke On The Water or indeed any Deep Purple, your argument might have made sense.

Some American sitcom of sorts?

Wilhelm said...

I'm actually wondering whether it might have been Fresh Prince

I'm tired of you putting down the great nation of France. And Smoke on The Water didn't include "the riff". The Joker did, and our French friend did spot that one straight away.

Ceci n’est pas une pipe.

Anders said...

...mmmh. My google-zen tells me it's from "Just Shoot Me". I knew that show aired on TV3/TVN/whatever, but I can't remember any of us being any HOOOOOGE fans of it?

Anders said...

But the song is by Cholera Joe Hopper. His singing and playing are very authentic sounding, in the style of Son House or Blind Willie Johnson. Some of his classics include "Bad Kinda Itch", "Hurts To Make Water" and "Don't Need No Doctor" (from his last, unfinished album).

It's the awsome. So, when can we expect an Cholera Joe Hopper special on the guitar quiz, W-meister? ;-)

Wilhelm said...

There's another one? Are you saying that one of the 654 states that used to be Yugoslavia now in cludes a great nation called France? And wouldn't that be the cause of some copyright-infringment suits from the existing, snail-eating, Vichy-drinking, "male"-thong-wearing, baguette-sporting "collage" of people known as france? Or maybe their new president lost the rights to the name in a game of poker, or traded it away for a lapdance in a titty bar?

And Smoke on The Water didn't include "the riff". The Joker did, and our French friend did spot that one straight away.

Ceci n’est pas une pipe.

So now you're sayin' that because Pigeon managed "The Joker", which by the way was the only song all of you managed, he must be some kind of music trivia database?

That was actually even more of a put-down towards the french guy than what I usually perpetrate; "Aww look at him - he can tie his own shoes and everything"

LOL - good one, A-master

Your Google-Fu impresses me. Can't say that the name of the show rings a bell, though

LMFAO

Anders said...

I'll bet the Pigeon knows Pebble In My One Good Shoe, though...

..by which you mean that you're certain he would recognize the agony of the situation, right?

Still; he sure owns your ass in the quiz, n'est pas?

Anders said...

Ask me that again after the Cholera Joe Hopper special quiz.
:-)

Anders said...

Seems like the show was called "Blush" in Norway. That doesn't ring any bell for me. But, it did feature David Spade, which is a slightly more the average funny guy. He has his moments. Maybe that's the reason we watched that series?

Wilhelm said...

Ask me that again after the Cholera Joe Hopper special quiz.

So are ya excited about the new season of Desperate Housewives rollin' up this week?

Wilhelm said...

..."Blush" does ring some kind of bell.....can't remember what it was about, though.

And I sure as hell won't unleash the full potential of my Google-Fu to find out more about it

Whaddaymean? Have you finally found yourself a dialogue drive serie that can rival Gilmore Girls?

:-D

I was actually just looking for a fight by attacking one of the worst shows on TV in the History of the Universe, but your way works too.....

...are you saying that the only song by the famous 80's group Rainbow - fronted by ex Purple guitarist Ritchie Blackmore - Pigeon would know of is "I Surender"?

Unknown said...

Rainwhat ???

Wilhelm said...

...stop it, dude; you're flat out depressing me up in heah

Anders said...

Ritchie Blackmore: The other guitarist that plays with worn out fretboards... ;-)

Wilhelm said...

..there are many of us, dude....

Frets 21-24 on Jem's are also scalloped, did ya know that?

Anders said...

..there are many of us, dude....

- Hi, I'm Wilhelm, and I scallop my fretboard.
- HI WILHELM.

Is that how your meeting starts?
;-)

Frets 21-24 on Jem's are also scalloped, did ya know that?

21-14 fret you say? No, Wilhelm, that's not scalloping. That's called a soundhole, and got one of them too.
;-)

Anyway, anything passed the 12th fret are just tricks. At least according to Ry Cooder.

Wilhelm said...

Ry Cooder sort of lost all credibility after he exploited those poor Cuban street musicians rather than paying domestic musicians actual wages and made that movie - Buena Vista Social Club or El Carlos something

Anders said...

Funny thing that. Many people thank Ry for resurrecting some old cuban musicans carrere calling the movie "a loving tribute by filmmaker Wim Wenders and musician Ry Cooder to the surviving members of a forgotten golden age of Cuban music". But you see through all that nonsense, right. You call'em as you see'em.
;-)

Wilhelm said...

Yes I do. Unless some serious moolah found its way to the Cuban musicians' pockets, the same argument can be made for companies like Nike giving small children an opportunity to earn a living....

Just like that greedy loser Chris Whitley who records all his albums using one out-of-tune guitar, one mic, stomps on the dirt floor to save money on percussion, and probably used his cousin as an engineer for the recording.

Anders said...

They got paid, was able to tour world wide (without Mr. Cooder) and made more money then they ever had done.

You mean the Chris Whitley who died in 2005 of lung cancer, being forced to tour and record up to the very end to cover his medical bills? Greedy bastard indeed...

Wilhelm said...

...this is gonna put a dent in my reputation as the world's most PC guy, isn't it? ;-)

Come to think of it; didn't I do something similar to this when we reviewed that dude who jacked Hallelujah from Cohen - I mentioned somthing of him approaching mediocrity from below or some shit...and then ou mentioned that he off and died......

Mr. Sensitivity - that's me

Anders said...

Do you wanna do Rainer Ptacek or Compay Segundo as well, no that you are on a roll?
;-)

Jeff Buckley? He drowned, but I can't remember you giving him any beef for that... ;-)
However, you did say that the album Grace was elevator music and that mr. Buckley was a mediocre musician that should aknowledge his vocal limitations.

Mr. Sensitivity - that's me

You bet!

I actually knew that Rainer was dead - probably from you being unable to hold up a conversation for more than three minutes without bashing your eyelids and talkin' about him ( ;-) ), but who the hell is that other guy?

Oh yeah; he's the guy who mowed our lawn back in good ol' NC - how's he doin' these days? (Just kiddin')

Of the 90 year old children that played on Buena Vista Social Club album...
