What'll become of the guitarquiz

The present quiz concludes the hundred songs, and so the battle is over come Saturday. Which begs the question: Then what? Specifically:
  • Is there enough interest to warrant a new set of songs?
  • If so, what simple steps can I take to improve the concept and format?
  • ..etc
Any comments or suggestions?

what simple steps can I take to improve the concept and format?..

- Get some decent guitars. Everybody knows the quality of guitars started to decline during WWII and from the 70's and on, it was just crap.

- Add some accordion to the songs

- No Scorpions

- How many 80's hair metal song are there really out there? When will it end?

- Bonus poins to the tall handsome guy.

- And some bonus points for me as well.

Some random thoughts here (apart from the funny stuff in the previous comment):

- It's fun. Basically, this is a quiz where you can't google the answer unless you at least know the song/artist/title or something.

- 5 songs per round is good. Enough to separate the contestant and not some many that you get bored listening through the songs.

- Maybe 20 rounds in a set is a little too much? If this is going to be a regular thing, maybe a set is 10 or 5 rounds?

- Don't go for the "Beat for Beat" trick. I like the plain and simple formate of name artist and song. Not "If Burzum where played by Engelbert Humperdinck" sh*t Beat for Beat keeps coming up with. Of course, a little added twist from now and then is cool (like having the guitar play the melody line from a keyboard or harmonica).

- The points: I think 1 point for artist and 1 point for song is Ok (or half a point for each). I don't mind if you weight the answers, say 2 for artist 1 for song or something, but generally I like it as it is: Plain and simple

- And thanks for the first 100, you've done a great job. It has been fun!

This is just my opinions and not written in stone. Let's here some other thoughts here as well!

Ok, my comments seem to appear and disappear all over the place today. This should be my third comment. If there are fewer or double posts, then blaim the m-factor resident goblin.

..and thus endeth the "Note To Self"?

....how many angels can dance on the head of a pin?

Dude; that's just plain wrong :-(

I agree. Still; I don't know how much past 200 songs total I can push while focusing on the guitar without really starting to include less known songs.

LOL...I guess not, although it'd be fun musically. And technically speaking I've already trangressed here, like with the "My Girl" solo

Thanks - but it wouldn't be possible without you hosting the songs.

He or she stopped posting after a rather optimistic advance towards owning me a couple of days ago.

Damn,
get a room !!!

I like the quiz as it is. I agree with the guy that thinks that he can get a free beer from a french guy, the next round should be a bit shorter, so the difference with Sondre will not be that big.

LOL

agree with the guy that thinks that he can get a free beer from a french guy,

Well; my understanding is that the only reason the guy thinks he can get a beer from the french guy is that the french guy lost a bet involving said beer. Hence the beer isn't free per se, and I guess it also opens up all kinds of questions as to whether the french guy can be trusted to make good on beer bets, past performance being the best indicator of future performance

:-)

I really doubt you needed that to be convinced by that :)

No Clifton Chenier songs, then?

I agree. Still; I don't know how much past 200 songs total I can push while focusing on the guitar without really starting to include less known songs.

Or including prewar blues. Next 100 songs could be a "Blues artist starting their name wiht "Blind"-special". Or 100 blues songs by Elmore James that feature the Dust My Broom lick...
;-)

A little goes a long way. The odd twist on the song is cool, but I wouldn't like to see "special editions" or something like that.

Hey, slow down there, chief! I'm the syncophantic yes-man on this board! Anybody aiming for that position, has to go through me!

Me too. Except for the overall rating. That does not reflect the musical knowledge of the participants at all!

No Gatemouth Brown either, Chief

That would be viola, not accordion. But I guess there is a slim to none chance of that fact changing our opinion about including Gatemouth?

Actually, forget that. Just surprise me...

Actually; all things considered, good ol' Clarence is quite proficient at whatever he does. At least he can laim claim to sucking at many instruments.
