Guitar Quiz Bonus Round...

Well, I don't want to step on anybody’s toes here, so this is not going to be a regular thing. But since Wilhelm so graciously supplied us with a 100 songs, I thought he might like the chance to test his quiz solving skills and how he compares with the rest of us.

So, I tried to 5 songs that Wilhelm wouldn't have included on his quiz (pretty difficult with that range of songs that has been on the quiz) and recorded them on my Tascam DP-01 FX. The guitar tones on the Tascam are pretty limited compare to what Wilhelm has, so they are not close to the real thing. And I'm still learning the Tascam, so sorry about the low quality recording. One of the songs came out awful, but I couldn't be bother going back and re-record. It's all just for fun anyway. Some of the songs should be pretty easy and some are a bit on the difficult side.

Anyway, you know the drill artist + song title, but submit your answers to AtrainQuiz@gmail.com. Last chance of entering is Saturday 10th of May. Answers will be posted on Sunday 11th of May.

Song 1:

Song 2:

Song 3:

Song 4:

Song 5:

The nerdy guitar facts for those who cares:
Song 1 - Supro in open G
Song 2- Takamine in standard tuning
Song 3 - Supro in open G
Song 4 - Takamine in standard, capo 3rd.
Song 5 - Supro in standard

That's way awesome, broski!

I recognized the first and third right off the bat (with the caveat that numero tres could be one out of two songs by the same guy), the fourth sounds really familiar (and it was really well played), and there's something vaguely familiar about the fifth one.

Actually, I'd say that song number one is pretty dead on as far as guitar sound.

Exactly - I don't put too much effort down per song when recording just for fun like this.

...and actually, I've recorded one of these, but in that case, let's just say I recorded the other song with the exact same riff....

I was afraid of that, if I think what you are thinking (yeah, let's not get into that "if I think that you think that I think..." game, but still). It could be confused with a song from a guy with way more hits then this guy. But adding more of that song would make it way too easy (it should be pretty easy as it is). I did actually cut some of the recording. And the tone is way off on that one; with the correct tone, it would be recognizable from the first note.

Oohhh. That's the one I consider the difficult one on this quiz. Should be easy if you're familiar with the artist (but what isn't?). Then again, it has been covered by other artists at least a couple of times.

It's a classic, I tell ya. :-D

That's the one I'm most happy with, yes. Number five isn't half bad either, but has an annoying distortion (due to too high input on the signal to the Tascam, I think).

But if you think what I'm thinking, then what you meant to record is what I think it is, no? When did you develop such a penchant for Poison, Anders?

Dammit - I'm SURE I've heard it before, but I'm not any closer to finding an artist. Or a song title, for that matter.

Are we doing some poor man's version of "Who's on first" here? ;-)

Now repeat after me.....distortion is my friend....it maketh me happy.

However; the guitar output was probably too high, so that it was distorted going into the Tascam, which means that you're pretty much screwed without a noise gate or at least some compression. My experience is that you can keep the guitar output quite low to medium and pile on distortion and volume from the amp module. Which means only one level of hum is added

Well, one of the problem I have with the Tascam is the volume level (in signal). It can be adjusted two ways, by the volum knobs on the guitar (I have three, that's about average, isn't it?) or on the recording channel. I've manually increased the volum after I've exported the tracks to my computer. The problem is that it's too low and if I increase it, it gets distorted. I'm sure there is something about this in the manual, so I guess I have to start reading up again.

Ah. I did the same thing for the first couple of tens of recordings I did with the Guitarport.

Dude; apparently I suck at this - I've only got two of these songs, even though the last two sound awfully familiar.....

Or I suck at this. Or have really weird music taste. Just depends if the other guys here at the forum thinks they are easy...
