The new signature Jimi Hendrix Electric Guitar Package

...from the Gibson Guitar Company. WTF??? Yes, you read correctly, from the one and only Gibson Guitar Company. Yeah, Jimi might have played a few different guitars, but the iconic image of the legend is with a "Fender Stratocaster, maple neck, strung upside down for a left-handed motherf**king genius" to quote Ford Fairlaine. And what to Gibson do? Release an SG or Flying V, which are legendary Gibson models that there at least are some photos of mr. Hendrix playing? No, they copy a Strat and slap on some kind of Firebird neck:
I can't believe the nerve. And this is in collaboration with the Hendrix estate? I've should have filed this under "nonsense"... No es bueno.

...NOW can I get you on board with how much Gibson sucks?

This is absolute crap though, and a testament to the lengths the Hendrix estate are willing to go to in order to make a quick buck. They've released a million different compilation albums - with the same songs in a slightly different order, or with some song "remixed" - by that they mean panned a little more left/right - and now they're ok'ing a "Listen to the flower people", one Stonehenge-copy short of Spinal Tap, stratocaster rip-off from a guitar company that rightfully should've gone out of business in the 80's.

Yes, the merry men at Fender responsible for the Helly Kitty strat and Avril Lavigne Ssgnature Tele are way more serious... ;)

Seriously, I thought Gibson started to get their act together, after horrible quality control, destroying the Dobro brand, etc, etc. But then they come up with something like this... No es bueno.

A brand like Gibson and their heritage should release the best version of their legendary models, and expanding with modern guitars that are not bastardization of their vintage models. Then again, they are a commercial company, and guess they have figured out this is the way to increase their income.

...not denying that Fender has a few missteps out there - like the entire Jaguar/Jazzmeister fiasco and a host of "signature" models which consist of low-end mixico strats with extra crappy paint jobs, but Gibson still sucks more and harder

Not defending Gibson at all here. But I was still surprised by how low they've sunk when I saw the Hendrix signature... Like the Robert Johnson signature wasn't bad enough...

....they have a Robert Johnson signature?

You'd still buy the Hound Dog Taylor signature model though - just 'fess up :-)

Considering the financial flexibility most seminal blues players had vis-a-vis picking and choosing guitar models, the concept of signature models becomes laughable

I would have bought the Billy F. Gibbons sig if it had been priced within my range... I will admit that!

And, yes, you can get The Robert Johnson L1 for a mere 2792USD. While L1 is a genuine Gibson guitar model, it's somewhat disputed whether mr. Johnson ever played one. And the signature on the 12 fret, I don't even know if they know how Robert johnson signed his name...

Why buy a Hound Dog Taylor signature, when you can still get the same guitar dirt cheap (couple of hundreds $)? Not that I'm in the marked, I'd always be one finger short of having mr. Taylor's gear... :D
