...40% geek myself. All these years of NOT playing computer games have paid off in more ways than one :-)

37%
Saved by all those nerdy TV-shows and the fact that I've cut back on my reading.

And ditto on the video games, gov.

Do I get bonus geek points for discovering how to use the URL to manipulate the score in the quiz?

..so pretty much the difference between our scores can be singled out to be the fact that i read books, and that one of the books I've read was "The Hobbit"?

..and you did what with the who now?

Yes. You should have at least 60% Geek score if you've read that book.

..and you did what with the who now?

Yes, that's correct. But you make it sound so naughty...
:-D

...........Heeeeeeeyyy....better shut up about my "Exploratory Data Analysis with MatLab" I've got, then

Well, according to a surveyi n Dagbladet of what occupation they prefered their partners to have, women prefer men that are capenters. Not too surprising that women prefer a handyman, but "computer expert" came in fifth!?! So be careful with flashing that MatLab book when you have female students visiting your office, Wilhelm.
:-D

On a completely unrelated note: I noticed "driver" came in at 39th (of 45 different occupations).

Man, that's a poorly constructed list, and the "conclusions" they draw are all over the place. "Engineer" is hardly a practically oriented profession, and manual labour isn't valued as highly as the geniouses have tried to portray. Also, the link to "muscles" they try to construct sort of falls apart with what the list says, as does the link to status.

F minus to the journalists in question for being completely unable to construct a questionnaire and also for completely failing to analyzing the data after collection.

Btw; why is it "Not too surprising that women prefer a handyman," Anders? Are you saying that in your mind, Polish carpenters and illegal mexicans get all the chicks?

You've obviously read that article. I didn't, just browsed through the list, 'cause experience told me this article wouldn't contain any useful information.

Sounds like you've met the building engineers responsible for my loft...

Are you saying that in your mind, Polish carpenters and illegal mexicans get all the chicks?

Yeah, they come to our country and steal our jobs and women. Damn those sweet-talking Romeos.
:-D

That piece actually provoked me on several levels - for one thing you've got to be pretty moronic to think that this list means anything, but what ticked me off the most - and here's why I scored higher than you on the geek test - is that the survey was obviously constructed by utter idiots who concocted the variables in such a way as to make it impossible to correlate the outcome with anything in the known universe. Add to that the fact that they ballsed up on the few occasions where they could've drawn some preliminary conclusions.

I took a dump this morning that could've made a better survey AND written a better article than what those "journalists" managed to do in this "study".

Sounds like you've met the building engineers responsible for my loft...

..they actually call themselves engineers? They are aware of the fact that you need to go to school and get a diploma to claim this title, right?

Yeah, they come to our country and steal our jobs and women. Damn those sweet-talking Romeos.

......nah; no comment.

The difference between you and me is that you read more (hence the higher geek score). I knew what to expect of this article (pretty obvious from the headline and the table of occupations), so I couldn't bother reading it and be pissed of. ;-)

Anyway, a survey like this is basically loaded with bias depending on who you ask, the questions and how they are asked. It wouldn't surprise me if these numbers are from an internet voting. And we all know how statistically significant numbers from such polls are...
But still, just to be on the safe side, I would strongly recommend that you hide that MatLab book if you have female guests in your office... :-D

..they actually call themselves engineers?

The dudes who keep (or should keep)control with those "sweet-talking Romeos" are engineers. They even have diplomas...

...sad thing is that from the ranking and the conclusions they've drawn, they haven't even biased the survey sufficiently to reach their presumedly foregone conclusions.

The dudes who keep (or should keep)control with those "sweet-talking Romeos" are engineers. They even have diplomas...

...but they're not the ones doing the manual labour or indeed anything practical, are they? They're just the clipboard and email monkeys
