Friday quiz...

Since I can't post pictures in the comment section, I had to make a new post with my nonsens.

So, just a quick quiz on this Friday: What is the asking price for these two guitars? (Yes, Wilhelm, they are different. Don't you see the pickup? And no, they are not rusty scrapmetal.)

Candidate number one:

Candidate number two:

Kind of hard to ballpark the price, but I assume that the first one is more expensive, as it has more elaborate "artwork" and doesn't look quite so run down. The pickup might screw up the downtrodden, authentic blues look, though. And I see that the guitars have good access to the higher frets, which for these correspond to less than an octave.......you can still be poor, oppressed and a crappy musician with a proper guitar, ya know.....

Unless the guitars come with signed certificates of authenticity and a photo of the Devil handing Robert Johnson these guitars at the Crossroads, I can't fathom the asking price to be more than 20k (Norwegian). Shipping included......

Well, you got it right when you said the first one is the most expensive. Asking price: 100 000 USD. Never seen asking price much over 20 000 for any National before. This guitar is vintage (from 1931) and belonged to one of the founders of National Stringed Instruments, George Beauchamp.

The second guitar is a modern reproduction of the Beauchamp, asking price 6500 USD.

So, is it worth it? Well, some say that it is an historic piece, and since "mass-produced" 50's Les Paul’s and pre-war Martins fetch prices way more then this, it is indeed worth it.

What do I think? No way. Even though I appreciate the craft and artistry that went into the guitar, they are among the ugliest things to ever come out of the National factory.
