As if Guitar Hero isn't enough...

...here comes something even worse, believe it or not. And even with a real cheesy commercial to boot (nerds unite!):

I need to buy a couple of those and start jamming on elevator music...

Here is what the manufacturer says about it:
http://www.sharperimage.com/us/en/cat...
The beamz™ unleashes the musical creativity that's harbored in every soul.

* Extraordinary invention fuses the interaction of your hands with laser beams to create the sounds of hundreds of different instruments.

* Breaking the laser beams with your hands automatically generates pre-authored pulses, streams, riffs or loops of musical notes or sounds from a variety of instruments — all kinds of strings, keyboards, winds, percussion. Sophisticated high-fidelity sounds seem to pour off your fingertips like magic!

* Choose a complementary rhythm track from 30 original songs in 19 music genres, including jazz, bluegrass, classical, hip-hop, reggae, heavy metal and more.

* The beamz system has a "W" shape, with six laser beams spanning the two sections; connect via USB to your PC or laptop, then hook up some speakers and you're ready to perform great-sounding music.

* Includes software CDs and USB cable for connecting directly to USB port of your PC or laptop.

Man.....and I thought GH was crappy...

Can you imagine being at a party where some douche pulls out one of these and starts "entertaining" after downing a couple of Smirnoff Ice or whatever the kind of people susceptible to buying and operating one of these is likely to drink? Even worse than SingStar...

LOL
Now I can. That would be the ultimate loser thing to do! Gotta get me one of those...

...can you imagine someone going "Olaf; let's hear you improvise on some Jean-Michel Jarre tunes"

Can you see two guys cutting heads on this one, crossroad style, like the two dudes jamming in the commercial?

"Yeah, stick it to him, Harald"
"Olaf, show him what you got!"

Yeah. Reminds me I've forgotten to comment on that clip you posted.

Oh, oh, oh.
I just thought of this:

The m-factor beamz™ quiz!

That would be something different then the guitar quiz! Of course, we had to have videos of the tunes, because, let's face it, the The beamz™ without moving picture is at it's best elevator music (Ok, guess I insultet Kenny G. there...)

So, who's up for the challenge? Only $99.99 plus shipping and three week delivery.
;-)

Impossible.....the only way you can realistically insult Kenny G by comparison is to insinuate that there are other people who take more care in obtaining the best perm job available

Ok, I have done some serious thinking (yep, a first time for me) about this beamz and Guitar Hero.

I consider them games that have nothing more to do with music then, say, sub-marine simulator games on a computer enable you to actually maneuver a real sub-marine.

However, some people say that you sort of get some insight in guitar play/ submarines/ airplanes/ car driving be these games. And that made me think. As I understand Guitar Hero, you don't have the same hand positions as you would on a real guitar, you don't make any chords or finger any notes (just pressing some of 4 or 5 buttons?) and hitting a key. As I understand it, you have to hit a key with your "pick hand" for each note/ strum (or at least on time). That could actually in theory improve ones sense of timing, which is good in any form of music.

As for the beamz? The hands only trigger a sequence of notes/ drums, which is preprogrammed and always on time. It's idiot-proof (it had to be, since it's exclusively being used by idiots) and always on the beat, even if the person playing is way of. Reminds me of the one tall guy that is always on concert clapping his hands in the air, way out of synch with both the music and the rest of the audience. Got nothing to do with music at all.

But worst of all: The beamz doesn’t look like any fun. It’s just makes you look stupid, and I can manage that on my own without any fancy computer games, thank you very much.

..are you saying that ye olde saying "A fool and his money are soon parted" may have some truth to it, Anders?

If I were a sales rep for this loser product, I would have associates standing outside the door ready to take the lunch money from each and every loser who limped out the door with said product in hand.

Guess that's why it's only available online...

You do know it's possible to delete a comment so nobody can see the double post, right

..so someone ought to invent another way of traumatizing the abominations of Nature who'd be likely to buy this product, then.

maybe merge with a virus-manufacturer?*

*Except the people who make computer viruses would be the exact segment of the population susceptible to buying such a white-bread nerd product

Nope. I'm flawless. With the right privileges you can completely remove a comment. Only douchbags, morons and the underprivileged leaves the "Comment deleted by author" header.

Well then; I'm apparently a lesser geek than you

You mean you're a lesser geek because you're not able to check the "Remove forever? (It can't be undone.)"-box when you delete a comment, and I am? Is this a part of the Church of Scientology's new geek level test?

...just 'cause they use the prefix "Scient-" doesn't make it scientific.
