Soccer geishas?

Yet another tragic consequence of the financial crisis - Bergen soccer franchise Brann can no longer afford to stock the VIP boxes with professional models acting as "hostesses" to the VIPs. Read all about it in Bergensavisen or in Dagbladet. Typically, the "hostesses" have been finalists or at least contestants in Miss Norway and similar arrangements. I am sure they were hired because they are such good conversationalists in addition to being astute observers of the game.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but "hostess" isn't the only word used to describe women who are paid in order to hang out with (predominantly) male customers.

Girl power indeed.

Oh fu**...
Who would have thought the financial crises would hit this hard? Who cares about people loosing their job or businesses going bankrupt, when there are freeloaders from the Brann sponsors can't rest their eyes on some young women? Dang.

On a sidenote: Dagbladet sure knows how to illustrate an article. Since they obviously didn't have any relevant photos (I'm sure there aren't any photos of Brann stadion, the dude interviewed, the miss Teen/Miss Norway contestants in questions, a player from Brann or similar in Dagbladet's archive), they opted for some German girls in their underwear...

PS: I've said it before: It's call football, not soccer. You're bit of a slow learner, eh?

Do soccer franchises get any governmental funding? I'd sure hate to see that any of my tax money went to pay for females "interacting" with VIPs at a soccer games.

I am sure that these dateless wonders can find a way to pay for female companionship without using the soccer franchise as a go-between.

Sorry Anders, I am quite the slow learner

I have no idea. Norsk Tipping puts a lot of money into the system, but that's money generated by the football fans themselves. But NRK pays for the TV rights, so at least some of your tax money goes (indirectly) to sponsor football.

I'm pretty sure that became illegal in Norway from 1st of January this year...

Bloody hell. I sort of came across this when reading dagbladet.no, and I find it so...silly. I mean, does other football clubs do the same thing? Use models as hostesses?

Doubt they'd get much conversation out of them. After all, girls don't get the off-side rule unless they play the sport :p

Don't know - this is the first I've heard of it. Then again, I'd be surprised if Brann was the only franchise to offer this "service"

Somehow I doubt they're there for their witty repartee. With regards to off-side, I am completely in the dark as well. Unless that's one of the many terms for when they pretend to be hurt and faint Gone-With-The-Wind style, only to leap back into a frenzy of angry gesticulation when the ref does not acknowledge their third-rate acting.

Oh yes indeed. In Stromsgodset we even have trans-hosts(esses)so that the queer and cross-over-soccers or football-hooligans have their favourite bits to lean on..pure democracy, though the gay-hosts are not present, due to the reputation of the club though..
