Power Ballad of the Day September 24th

In the interest of getting it over with: "Sweet Child Of Mine" by Guns'N'Roses

Absolutely great riff/main theme, very much standard G-C-D progression for the verse and chorus, and then they go and spoil it all by adding something stupid like the extended "where do we go now" and "harder" section. It also doesn't help that the solo hardly does the song justice.

  1. My iPhone ringtone! I never want to answer the phone...

I remember the first time I heard this song, on the local cable company's information channel. I was completely unable to keep zapping until the song was finished! Escpecially the intro is brilliant.

I also remember the words of music legend and Norwegian Idol judge Ole Evenrud: "This band will never sell a record!"

  2. Anders: >:-( :-D

T-bombz: Yeah - the intro is freakin' brilliant!

Evenrud wasn't the only one to miss teh boat on G'N'R - didn't Garage refuse to book the band for much the same reasons back in the day?

  3. Seriously, until recently, I've always thought that G'n'R were just a fad, and that people now where imbarresed to admit they listened to them. Much like people who bought Baccara albums (google it) in the 70's. Still can't grasp what's so great about G'n'R. Even some people whom have similar musical taste, say G'nR are/ were great. Could somebody enlighten me?

(Yeah, I know, I should lay off the Hate-o-rade.)

  4. If by this you're saying that they're overrated, I agree

  5. Don't think this song in particular is overrated, though.

  6. This song is great - no doubt. I think what Anders referred to was that G'N'R somewhat undeservedly have reached icon status

  7. I'd say that this song qualifies for lengendary status solely.
