Douse that light...

I just had to post the El Willy's playlist today, just to keep it up here for ever:

Can anybody spot the great track on the list? The man starts to show some taste!

  1. ...have you taken data collection and -analysis lessons from a certain Associate Professor of Political Science?

Plus - epic jealousy of the fact that the vast majority of players in our CD collection knows how to tune a guitar and doesn't fear "teh metronome".

  2. Seriously though - This tune rocks. You of all people know how few "proper" blues tunes I like, but this one is just about as good as it gets in the blues genre for me. This one, "Blue" with Yngwie, some SRV, "Just Go For It" with Steve Vai, some Gary Moore, perhaps a li'l Albert King, and Red House. Of course, Anders Boogie ranks right up there too ;-)

  3. Anders Boogie is the greatest blues tune this side of the Rio Grande! ;-)

Have I heard "Blue"? Doesn't ring a bell, and I know my Yngwie...

How 'bout some Lonnie Mack, Johnny Winter or Jimmy Thackery?

But ZZ Top are great. You won't see any of them appearing topless in magazines like Linni Meister, Aylar or some of those bimbos just to sell records...

I'd forgotten 'bout Lonnie Mack and Thackery. Strictly speaking, Thackery just does SRV at a higher speed, though, right?

So you don't see ZZ Top-less in magazines, eh? That's not what I heard.....

  5. Thackery might be similar to the SRV blues rock style, yes. But I wouldn't say that he's a SRV copy.

Have to check out that BlueTube clip later...

  6. Blue by YJM:
"This one doesn't contain any of the normal blues chord progressions.."
    No shit!

I guess it's bluesy in a Hendrix kind of way, but somehow I still don't see Son House doing this in a Mississippi junk joint...

Actually, I think I prefer Yngwie in a more classical, rock kind of way. He does have an ear for melodies and for that de doesn't get the cred he deservers.

Whatever happened to that "soon-to-be-great" playlist? Let's see if we can change that next month...

  9. What happened was I've listened to different stuff the last week. White Knuckles is actually a cool straight-up song, in addition to its legendary live factor

  10. Yeah, but those bearded guys got sooo much more going for them then JGBFB, so you have a really wide selection to listen too... ;-)

    WHITE KNUCKLES!!!!!!!!!!
